We are still very far from the Path of Exile 2 available

Path of Exile 2 is unlikely to be released in 2021, according to Grinding Gear Games Studio chief developer and publisher Chris Wilson.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Wilson explained the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic on the New Zealand-based studio and the upcoming sequel to the ARPG title.

"I hate to blame COVID for things, but that's a big part right now. "We had difficulty hiring people because the border with New Zealand is closed, which has limited the reinforcement of the team that has taken on the creation of our assets a bit," says Wilson.

"The progress of development was not as fast as we wanted, so our goal is to work as hard as we can during 2021 in Path of Exile 2 and see how much progress we make. Trying to do as much as possible will give us a better idea of a "good release date" that we can estimate should be towards the end of the year.

PC Gamer then asked Wilson if Path of Exile 2 would be available in 2022, to which Wilson replied, "Yes, I think it's expensive."

Given that the original Path of Exile was released on Xbox One, several years after its initial release on PC, it seems that fans of the title who want to play the sequel on a console could wait a long time to finally get hands the new title.
